DeSantis Republicans pushing to expand so-called ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law – twitchy.com

Legislators can be idiots. We’re reminded of the time Democrats were parading around the Capitol saying the word “gay” in opposition to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill, which obviously would make it illegal to say “gay.” We read horror stories in the media about teachers trying to prepare for the Parental Rights in Education law while obviously knowing nothing about it. Just don’t lead discussions on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade, OK?

History-making former Florida lawmaker Carlos Guillermo Smith has a dire warning for us: Ron DeSantis Republicans are pushing to expand “Don’t Say Gay.” “The consequences of Florida’s #DontSayGay law can be seen everywhere,” he contends, “and our most vulnerable kids are paying the price.”

The thing is, don’t highlight the bill text if it doesn’t support what you’re claiming. The bill suggests banning classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity through eighth grade — that’s “excluding” LGBTQ students. And as for the government regulation of pronouns, the bill says that employees, contractors, and students can’t be compelled to refer to another person by their preferred title or pronouns.

We’ll agree it’s not the most pressing of issues, and frankly, we’re happy with the Parental Rights in Education law as it is now.

“Parent’s rights” has become code for fascism. Damn those parents for trying to have a say in their kids’ education.
