Still a WIP and haven’t test fired any yet. Just got my hands on the .25acp today and unfortunately I’m busy all this weekend so it might be a while until testing, but I “assembled” the ammo today.
I was checking out those cartridge adapters that let you shoot .32acp out of .30-06, 8mm Mauser and 7.62x54r chambered firearms and I had the idea to see if I could do the same for 6.5 Carcano as I was looking at the Vetterli rifles that have been coming into the country lately. They’re generally not safe to shoot with full power 6.5 Carcano loads so this may be a safer alternative to still be able to shoot those and not have to worry about getting a flying bolt into your face.
I checked out some cartridge dimensions and it turns out that .25acp is just a hair smaller in diameter than 6.5 Carcano projectiles. I took a 6.5 Carcano snap cap design, used a .25acp snap cap as negative space, combined the two in tinkercad and added a “barrel” to the 6.5 Carcano case print and then shoved them together.
I’ve seen some people experiment with PLA+ .22lr barrels that will last for a few rounds before becoming useless so I’m hoping that these .25acp adapters will hold up for a shot or two before you just chuck them and get new ones.
I might also try printing this in PETG and see how that goes as long as this doesn’t turn out disastrous, which I don’t think it will. If my 6.5 Carcano rifle can’t handle .25acp doing something funky, it doesn’t really have any business being a military rifle.
